That was the statement made by Singapore's Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew during a gathering at his Tanjong Pagar constituents in celebration of Singapore's 43rd National Day. I refresh below part of his statement quoted by the local Today newspaper.
The political problems faced by many countries in Asia are due to money politics but the problem did not take root in Singapore because '' we have a Division One team in charge". He said that in many Asian countries, money politics was simply the " code word" for buying votes to gain power and, after that was done, " to recover your expenses plus some profit for the next round of vote buying"
One of the big problems they now face, in other countries, is the people in power want to reserve the money, keep it for themselves. So, they exclude young able people who want to join their team. The result is, there is no talent inside the existing parties.
In other countries, elections do not put up a Division One team. They are a Division Three, either a B team or a C team in charge. In Singapore, we carefully select our candidates.
Over the years, with each election, we see the quality of the MPs, their education levels, their competence, their abilities, their energy. Their youthfulness is renewed and we have a leadership that's able to meet the rising standards of the population.
You vote in a Division Three government, not a Division One government, and the whole economy will just subside within three, four years. Finished!
I chose to reserve my comment on what Mr Harry Lee Kuan Yew had to say. My only reservation is that why did Kuan Yew use the word `money politic' not corruption in his speech. Sound familiar here...and which Asian countries did he mean to justify his statement. Kuan Yew was talking about quality, integrity and credibility...sound unfamiliar huh...

Macam Premier League juga la. Kalau first team main for sure boleh menang atau seri tapi kalau hantar second string team alamat kena belasah la.
Nak cari pemain pun kena betul-betul ada skil, stamina, attitude, integrity, team work dan cerdik. Barulah pasukan boleh maju kerana kalau individu-individu itu excellent dalam semua aspek sudah tentu pasukan dia boleh menang.

Dia beri gaji yg LUMAYAN (rasuah juga) kpd Menteri dan 'Civil Servants' supaya setia kpd PAP. Itu sebab "Division One Team in charge". Lee Kuan Yew said,.. is the people in power want to reserve the money, keep it for themselves. "That why. his son Lee Hsien Loong become PM to look after their family wealths".
