I was terribly shocked to hear the death of a young PTD cadet officer who died when she was attending a six month qualifying course in INTAN recently. Nor hashimah Wahid, 30 an officer with the Ministry of Finance, died of lung infection four days after she was admitted to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

She was complaining of fever but were forced to undergo rough physical training such as canoing for four hours, diving in muddy water and were forced to drink water from stockings. The vivid incidents of army officers who were over bullied by its instructors recently is still haunting us.

She was going to be a PTD officer not a soldier. Why must she be, as an administrative officer, be hauled up for such a robust and rough physical training, just to qualify her to be an officer with the Government department. What is it that INTAN or the department trying prove out of its future officers by sending them to a such brutal physical training. And why the need to bully participants to that level of forcing them to drink water drenched from socks. They are not going to be commandos or any special elite missionary forces. They are just going an ordinary diplomatic and administrative officers.

My opinion is the family of Nor Hashimah Wahid should sue the authority and prove them that such a brutal army liked training would not prove anything neither it is going to be for the betterment of the future PTD cadet officers. It is just an act of overzealous of the instructors concerned. Lets hope that these incidents would not happen again as it is only shows its mockery of our PTD training programmes.
