No more discount for AirAsia's Tony

The war of words between AirAsia and MAS seems to have came to a very low level of mentality. Idris Jalla of MAS has withdraw the privileges of discounted fares granted to Tony as a courtesy to fellow airlines boss. Idris claimed that his staff protested over Tony's `so called' negative statements about MAS. Sound `familiar culture' in our local daily life.

To me, if Tony, like ten in thousands of people who frequent MAS from day one, have said many negative things about MAS, and mind you, they are saying the right thing. I am definitely one of them. Tony or whoever they are, has every right to think that the free fare promotion by MAS is a `copy cat' from a promotional tag lines by AirAsia. It looks similar in nature. AirAsia did it first. There is no telling that being the national airline, MAS just could not compete with an airline very much younger like AirAsia. Shame on you!!

Just have a look at these factors:

MAS - was the ONLY national airline, no competitor, strong back up financially by the Government yet they lost in millions. Just the other day, their Chairman, said that MAS could not make profit with the current fuel hike in price. Sound familiar again, something to justify fare price increase!!!

AirAsia - second airline, many competitors, and NO back up by the Government yet they made millions in profit in two to three years. And yes..they do not intend to increase their fares too!!!

And all Tony asked was, being a corporate player in the same industry, the same level of playing field. Some may try to give some `funny ideas' and `wild reasonings' about these issues. There are none, to justify these `flaws' in our own airlines industry. It is about proper management, about responsilibity, about intergrity, about transparency and good governance. MAS should be ashamed of their own legacy. Just look at their counterpart, Singapore Airlines, a proud national airline for their country and the Asean region. And it has a Malaysian CEO too.
