Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President, Datuk Yong Teck Lee's announcement to move a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister had set up a new precedence in Malaysian political scenario. The PM is the leader of a political party coalition, Barisan Nasional, of which SAPP is a member. The BN leadership had their emergency meeting today, chaired by PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It was reported that one of the agenda was to discuss about the unprecendented move by one its coalition member, SAPP.
As expected, calls for expulsion and diciplinary action be taken against SAPP were reported. As usual Muhammad Taib, UMNO's Information Chief, was always at the frontline to defend his boss at any costs. Some speculate that more coalition members are expected to follow suit, but by the time the BN COmmittee Meeting ended by late evening, no other party responded to the calls by SAPP. PBS and UPKO were the two parties in Sabah seem vocal enough to follow the steps taken by SAPP, though both party leaders are still keeping mum over the matter. PM Abdullah responded by saying that Teck Lee did that because of personal gains, while the later was insisting on the `issues of treatment' to the Sabahan, that prompted the party to state their stand.
