Dr Avul Pakir Jainullabdeen Abdul Kalam, former Indian President and India's most prominent rocket and aerospace scientist had this to say to our Malaysian people... based on what I have studied , I believe that all religions have two components. One is theology and the other is spirituality. For theology, every religion has its own unique system, which it protects. But spirituality is the common factor for all religions. It is the bridge that connects all religions. Dr Abdul Kalam was in Malaysia on a four day visit. Dr Abdul Kalam, also known as 'India's Missile Man' was honoured with Honorary Doctorate of Science by Universiti Sains Pulau Pinang.
Dr Abdul Kalam who has authored many books on aerospace, technology and motivation was also a special guest speaker at the Khazanah Global Lecture. As a Muslim in a Hindu majority India, Dr Kalam is known to be advocating and professing in forging unity and tolerance among faiths. He was noted for being a firm nationalist of India when he was reluctant to administer the oath that would have been taken by Sonia Gandhi, who was supposed to become India's Prime Minister in 2004. Sonia, the widow of the late Rajiv Gandhi, is an Italian. Sonia was then replaced by economist Manmoham Singh.
